Delco Veterans Memorial Hosts 4th Flying Of Veteran Casket Flags

The Veterans Memorial Association hosted the event with the Veterans and Military Service Committee of the Delaware County Bar Association.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA — Last weekend, the Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association hosted the Veterans and Military Service Committee of the Delaware County Bar Association’s Fourth Annual Flying of Veteran Casket Flags.

The event took place at 5 p.m. on Oct. 17 and served as a powerful way for the Delaware County Bar Association to memorialize and celebrate the life and legacy of their deceased veteran members for their heroic military efforts and helping to shape Delaware County.

The Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association reserves the memorial grounds once a month to host casket flag raising ceremonies to commemorate veterans who are no longer with us.

Flag draped across veterans' caskets are flown high above the memorial proceeded by a solemn ceremony to remember their lives and the sacrifices they gave.

The following Delaware County Bar Association Members were commemorated: James R. Flick, Jr., Edmund Jones, Esq., Richard A. Mitchell, Esq., Howard Richard, Esq., Thomas J. Russell, Esq., and The Fallen Heroes of 9/11.

Springfield Township Police Chief and President of the DCVMA Joseph Daly welcomed the crowd followed by Vietnam Army Veteran and Silver Star recipient Dennis Murphy, and DCVMA Vice President, who led the ceremony. The casket flag raising portion was under the direction of Bill Kinney, USCMC, Vietnam veteran.

The DCVMA offers the opportunity to celebrate a loved one, friend or colleague, fallen comrade or military ancestor at an upcoming casket flag raising ceremony at no cost to the public.

All ceremonies are held at 5 pm on the second Sunday of the month through April to November, weather permitting.
