Delco Woman Posed As Elderly Victim's Daughter To Steal $74K: DA
She is accused of posing as a 92-year-old woman's daughter and power of attorney to steal thousands of dollars from her bank account.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — A Delaware County woman is facing charges after allegedly posing as a 92-year-old woman's daighter and power of attorney and stealing tens of thousands of dollars from her in the process.
Delaware County District Attorney Katayoun M. Copeland said Regina Maggio, 51, of Glenolden, was arrested for allegedly stealing $74,000 from the financial accounts of a 92-year-old woman after falsely posing as the victim’s daughter and power of attorney to gain access to her accounts.
Maggio has been charged with theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking, access device fraud, and forgery, all felony offenses, the DA's office said.

The arrest comes at the conclusion of an investigation conducted by Detective Edward Rosen of the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Senior Exploitation Unit.
On Aug. 10, 2018, a checking and savings account at Citizen’s Bank was opened under the victim’s name, allegedly listing defendant Maggio as having power of attorney, according to the DA's office.

Then on Sept. 1, 2018, the Maggio allegedly changed the address on the accounts to her own residence, the DA's office said.
An investigation regarding the victim’s checking account revealed that between August 2018 and September of 2018, a total of $15,892.19 was fraudulently withdrawn, according to the DA's office.
Investigator learned that between Nov. 10, 2018 and Jan. 24, 2019, 11 checks totaling $58,200 were written from the victim’s AIG life insurance account.
Nine of these checks were made out to Maggio and the others to Maggio’s daughter and son, according to the DA's office.
At the time, the victim was under 24-hour care in a nursing home and none of the money was used for the victim’s care.
Maggio had bail at 10 percent of $50,000 and was remanded to the George W. Hill Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.
Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 27, 2019.
