DUI Driver Hits Marple Police Vehicle With Officer Inside: Authorities

Marple Township Police said a DUI driver struck one of its vehicles that was being driven by an officer early Friday night. No one was hurt.

MARPLE TOWNSHIP, PA — DUI and related charges have been filed against a man who is accused of crashing into a Marple Township Police vehicle over the weekend.

The incident happened at about 9:29 p.m. Friday on the 700 block of Old Marple Road, according to police.

At that time, Marple Police Ofc. George Lambritsios was driving on Old Marple Road towards Upper Providence when a vehicle going the opposite direction, towards Lambritsios, veered off the road.

The vehicle then returned to the road, heading towards the Lambritsios in his travel lane.

Lambritsios veered to the right to avoid being struck head on. However, the other driver struck the driver's side rear of the police vehicle.

Police said the other driver was Scott Lentz.

Court records were not immediately available for Lentz.

Police said no one was hurt in the crash, but the vehicle, which is the newest of Marple Police's fleet, sustained damage.
