DUI, Retail Theft, Crashes Reported in Delaware County

Pennsylvania State Police in Delco responded to multiple incidents, including DUIs, retail theft, and vehicle crashes, according to reports.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Pennsylvania State Police in Media have released details on a series of recent incidents across Delaware County. Reports include multiple vehicle crashes, theft investigations, and arrests for driving under the influence.

Most recently, on Feb. 6, at about 7:28 p.m., troopers conducted another traffic stop on Interstate 95 South at mile marker 6.1 in Chester City. The driver, John Thompson, 40, of Claymont, Delaware, was identified by his ignition interlock license. The vehicle was not properly equipped with an ignition interlock device, and Thompson was taken into custody. Troopers are investigating this incident.

On Feb. 5 at about 12:30 p.m., troopers responded to a disabled motorist at the intersection of Smithbridge Road and Valleybrook Road in Chester Heights Borough. An investigation determined the operator was suspected of driving under the influence of a controlled substance. The 52-year-old male from Chadds Ford was taken into custody for DUI. His 2023 black Jeep Grand Cherokee was towed from the scene.

On Jan. 30, at about 12:44 p.m., troopers conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 95 South at mile marker 6.1 in Chester City. Troopers located a firearm on the driver, identified as Isaiah Browne, 28, of Philadelphia, who was a felon not to possess. The vehicle was towed to PSP-Media, and a search warrant was obtained. The search yielded a large bag of marijuana and various narcotic equipment. Troopers are investigating this incident.

In Middletown Township, on Jan. 22, at 7:59 p.m., troopers responded to Boscov's department store at 1067 W. Baltimore Pike for a retail theft report. Loss prevention members observed a suspect steal several pieces of jewelry valued at $261.82. The suspect, identified as Julie Herestofa, was confronted and fled but was located in a backyard behind Penncrest High School. She was taken into custody with the stolen merchandise in her possession. This case remains open for further investigation.

Further crash reports include a Jan. 18 incident on I-95 South in Ridley Township where a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado lost control due to weather and hit a barrier. No injuries were reported. On Jan. 29, a two-vehicle crash on I-476 South in Marple Township involved a 2020 Ford and a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. No injuries were reported. On Jan. 31, a crash at 100 Yearsley Mill Road in Middletown Township involved a 2023 Kia and a 2016 Volkswagen GTI. The Kia failed to yield while exiting a parking lot, resulting in minor damage to both vehicles and no reported injuries.

Separately, on Jan. 6, at about 3:48 p.m., PSP responded to a theft report at Riddle Hospital, located at 1068 West Baltimore Pike in Middletown Township. A 77-year-old male victim from Newtown Square reported his cell phone was no longer in his room after he had surgery. The phone was left in the room alone with his roommate. An actor reportedly stole the victim's cell phone.

On Dec. 19, 2025, at 8:39 a.m., a single-vehicle crash occurred southbound on I-476 at mile marker 9.4 in Marple Township. Matthew Nicolino, 39, of West Chester, was driving a 2020 Ford Explorer when he hydroplaned into a concrete barrier due to weather conditions. He sustained minor injuries but refused EMS transport. He was charged with driving at an unsafe speed.

Pennsylvania State Police also reported multiple vehicle crashes. On Dec. 12, 2025, at 2:36 p.m., a three-vehicle crash occurred southbound on W. Baltimore Pike in Middletown Township. Katherine Tota, 28, of Malvern, was cited for following too closely after her 2018 Honda CRV struck a 2012 Toyota Rav4 driven by Shea, 30, of Broomall. The impact caused the Toyota to strike a 2026 Ram 1500 driven by Khaliff Rowe, 45, of Philadelphia. All drivers reported no injuries.

Earlier, on Dec. 7, 2025, at about 7:29 p.m., PSP Media responded to a report of a male attacked by his girlfriend at a hospital on West Baltimore Pike in Middletown Township. Further investigation revealed that Kalengy Naeem Smith, 34, of Chester, grabbed his girlfriend's leg after becoming agitated in the waiting room. Smith was issued a non-traffic citation and released.

On Nov. 25, 2025, a 22-year-old male from Philadelphia was taken into custody for driving under the influence.
