On Wednesday April 25 from 7pm - 8pm, The Friends of the Newtown Public Library welcome the public to an interesting and thought provoking talk entitled "The American Revolution: Our First Civil War." Bill Troppman, a Park Ranger and historian for The Valley Forge National Historical Park, will share his thoughts on the American Revolution in the Delaware Valley, with a special emphasis on these divided loyalties.
Mr. Troppman's audiences are often surprised to learn that there were thousands of Americans of British background, who fought for King George instead of George Washington. Fully one-third of royal forces in America were hired German troops who fought against many Patriot soldiers, who were also of German descent. And finally, the tens of thousands of Scottish immigrants to America were equally divided in this conflict.
