Fatal SEPTA Pedestrian Strike In Delco Ruled Suicide

Authorities said the death of a teenage girl who was a student at Strath Haven High School was a suicide.

SWARTHMORE, PA — The fatal pedestrian-train strike in Delaware County has been ruled suicide, according to authorities.

The Wallingford Strathmore School District said a 16-year-old student died Monday, Oct. 28.

The Delaware County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the manner of death as suicide, the cause being multiple blunt force traumas.

She was struck by a SEPTA Media/Elwyn Regional Rail line train at about 7 a.m. Monday in Swarthmore.

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with her family and friends," Wallingford Strathmore School District Lisa A. Palmer said in a message to the community. "We have established support centers in our High School and Middle School that are fully staffed with school counselors, school psychologists, and members of our crisis intervention team. Our school teams were available to meet with students and staff individually and in groups today and will remain available in the coming days and weeks. If you feel your child or you are in need of additional assistance, please contact the school office, the principal, or one of our counselors. "
