Fire Closes Marple Newtown High School Friday
Firefighters found smoke in the school's basement and then a small fire in the school's wood shop, the Newtown Square Fire Company said.
NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA — The Marple Newtown High School is closed Friday due to a fire.
Firefighters were called to the school at 5:02 a.m. Friday after an automatic fire alarm triggered, according to the Newtown Square Fire Company.
Crews found smoke in the school's basement and then a small fire in the school's wood shop, officials said.

More units were called to the school to help with ventilation.
Assisting at the school were Berwyn Fire Company, Broomall Fire Company, Rose Tree Fire Company, Media Fire Company Station 23, Radnor Fire Company, and Milmont Fire Co. 49.

No one was hurt.
All other district schools and offices are open on the regular schedule.
