Gen S.D. Butler Detachment Presents an Americanism and Flag Program at Upper Darby's Stonehurst Hills Elementary School

The history of the American Flag was the subject of a program by Marines of the Gen. Smedley D. Butler Detachment, Marine Corps League

Today, May 29, 2015, the General Smedley D. Butler Detachment’s Americanism Team of Jim Mulhern, Earle Drake and Ceremonial Bugler Dan Fitzpatrick made an Americanism/Flag History presentation to the fifth graders at Stonehurst Hills Elementary School in Upper Darby. The Americanism team was invited to raise the Flag and afterwards make their presentation in honor of the school’s Memorial Day celebration. Marine Earle Drake raised the flag, Marine Jim Mulhern held the flag until it was raised while Marine Dan Fitzpatrick played the bugle call, “To the Colors”. After the flag was raised, the school’s coral group sang the National Anthem with all students present singing it and followed by the school song.

The team made a Certificate of Appreciation presentation to the school’s representative, Joan Scarrino, the school’s fifth grade teacher. Shown in the with Mrs. Scarrino is Americanism Team member Jim Mulhern.
