Photographs of the Various Ceremonies in Which the Detachment Participated on Memorial Day
On Memorial Day, the members of the General Smedley D. Butler Detachment, Marine Corps League, headquartered in Newtown Square, participated in a number of events saluting those military women and men who made the supreme sacrifice so that we remain free to enjoy all the benefits accorded us under the Constitution of the United States. Starting early in the morning at the Delaware County Veterans Memorial on West Chester Pike, a solemn tribute was made honoring all who have fallen for us. Thereafter, the members gathered at the home of Broomall’s American Legion Post 805 on West Chester Pike from where they departed to participate in the Memorial Day parade, some riding in the Detachment’s parade trailer while others marched. Following the parade, the members returned to the American Legion’s Post home where a solemn ceremony was held that included veterans from various organizations as well as township citizens. From there, the veterans proceeded to Veterans Park on Lawrence Road where another solemn ceremony was held. After that, some veterans returned to the Delco Veterans Memorial for a ceremony to raise the flags to their full height.
