The Gen. Smedley D. Butler Detachment, Marine Corps League, Hosted It Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner On Tuesday Evening June 2

The Detachment annually presents scholarship awards to members' children and grandchildren. Below are photos of the presentation.

This year, prior to their monthly meetings, the Detachment and the Auxiliary presented a total of 11 scholarships to children and grandchildren of their members. The scholarships provide financial assistance to assist these college students deal with the costs of their higher education. The Detachment’s program has been run by Leaguer Wayne Williams for a number of years and by Evelyn Brimble for the Auxiliary. Students makes application and submit them to Leaguer Williams and Mrs. Brimble who assure that the applicants and the applications meet the stringent requirements for consideration. At the ceremony, each awardee introduces herself or himself to the assembled group, describes her/his course of study and college attending, and gives a short description of the career goal. Following the awarding of the scholarships ceremony, the awardees, their sponsors and families, and the Detachment and Auxiliary members sit down to a catered dinner. Following the dinner, after the scholarship winners and their non Detachment member guests depart, both the Detachment and the Auxiliary hold their monthly meetings at the Knights of Columbus Mater Dei Hall on N. Newtown Square Road.
