As with most grandparents, I have a difficult time each year finding suitable Christmas presents for my grandchildren. Last year I solved the problem by telling them I would write a young adult book in which they would be the main characters and would give me the main story lines during regular creative meetings. The six kids, ages 6 to 14, embraced the concept and, since they all live locally, we were able to meet regularly and they gave me an endless supply of ideas. One of them even functioned as my proof reader.
I was continuously amazed at their creativity and nimble minds, as well as how well they worked together to develop new ideas. I finished the project in time to give them printed books for Christmas this year. They even signed a copy that they gave to their great grandmother on her 90th birthday this past Sunday.
The book is titled The Incredible Cousins and the Magic Caboose and is available in both paperback and e-book on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. This is my 16th novel, and by far my most rewarding. And the kids enjoyed the project so much they are already after me to do another one!
