Group To Conduct Door-To-Door Membership Drive In Marple: Police

Marple Police said Working America, an IRS-recognized charitable organization, will be canvassing Marple neighborhoods through August.

MARPLE TOWNSHIP, PA — A group will be doing door-to-door membership solicitations in Marple Township for several months, according to police.

Marple Township Police said Working America, a community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, will be conducting a door-to-door membership organizing drive in Marple now through at least August 2024.

Canvassing is limited to 11 hours, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., police said. Canvassers with Working America typically go door-to-door between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., officials said.

According to police, Working America is considered a charitable organization by the IRS and does not require permits.

According to a Working America field director, their "canvassers are professionally trained and may at times carry prominently displayed picture identification cards and wear red safety vests that display their affiliation with Working America."

"The purpose of our organizing drive is to educate working people about issues that affect them and sign-up new members," the director said. "Our organizers do not sell any kind of products."
