Gun, 2.5 Pounds Of Weed Seized In Marple Traffic Stop

Marple Township Police charged a Philadelphia man with felony gun and drug crimes after they found a firearm and marijuana in his car.

MARPLE, PA — Authorities in Marple Township seized a few pounds of marijuana and a gun during a traffic stop Tuesday.

Marple Township Police charged Maurice Barton, 19, of Philadelphia, with felony drug, gun, and theft crimes.

The charges stem from a traffic stop that occurred just after midnight Tuesday, police said.

Barton was stopped for vehicle violations, police said.

When the officer came up to his car, the officer saw the grip of a handgun in the floorboards under the passenger seat, police said.

After Barton was taken out of the vehicle, police found a Glock 43x handgun and 2.3 pounds of marijuana, according to authorities.

Barton was released after posting 10 percent of $25,000 bail.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 2, court records show.
