Gun, Drug Charges Filed Against Broomall Man
Police found a loaded Springfield XD .45ACP firearm with an obliterated serial number, drugs, and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop.

MARPLE TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in Marple Township filed gun and drug charges against a Broomall man after a traffic stop in mid August.
According to Marple Township Police, Joseph Dougherty, 24, has been charged with felony firearm crimes, as well as drug and drug paraphernalia possession.
The charges stemmed from a traffic stop that occurred at 1:57 p.m. on Aug. 13.

Police stopped a vehicle at South Sproul Road and Reed Road after seeing multiple vehicle code violations from a Honda sedan.
Police made contact with the operator and Dougherty who was in the front passenger seat.

Officers detected an odor of marijuana emanating from within the vehicle.
The driver gave police consent to search the vehicle.
During the search, police found a backpack on the passenger floor that belonged to Dougherty.
Inside the backpack, police found suspected marijuana, prescription pills, a white powdery substance, drug paraphernalia, and a loaded Springfield XD .45ACP firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Dougherty was taken into custody.
He was released after posting 10 percent of $75,000 bail and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 29, court records show.
