Dinner & Talk: The History of Episcopal Academy

The speakers will discuss the history of Episcopal Academy, founded in 1785, and its move from Merion Station to its current location in Newtown Square.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–There's still room to hear about 's back history, sponsored by the Radnor Historical Society's Annual Dinner, which takes place Wednesday, April 18, at the school, located on 556 N. Newtown Road in Newtown Square.

The first of two after-dinner speakers, Jim Garrison, will talk about the Academy’s history. Garrison is a restoration architect, an Episcopal graduate, and author of Excellence that Endures—The First 225 Years of the Episcopal Academy (2010). Rush T. Haines, a partner with Drinker, Biddle & Reath, LLP, in Philadelphia and former Chair of the Board at Episcopal will then discuss the transition to the new campus.

Wine, soft drinks, and hors d’oeuvres will be served before dinner.

Campus directions:  Follow the event parking signs to Lot 5, Faculty and Staff Parking.  Park in Lot 5, and walk up the wooden steps across the street to a doorway to the Crawford Campus Center  A drop off area for those who have trouble walking is located at the curb across from the wooden steps.  Follow the flat walkway to the Campus Center.  

4:45 p.m.  Meet in the Haines Lobby of the Crawford Campus Center for a 5 p.m. tour of the Science Building, Middle School Classrooms, Chapel, and Athletic Center.  

5:30 p.m. Wine and hors d'oeuvres in the Haines Lobby

6:15 p.m. Dinner in the Dining Hall

7:30 p.m. Speakers Jim Garrison and Rush Haines

Garden salad with pears and pine nuts   Choice of entree:  Grilled beef tenderloin with garlic and thyme or grilled salmon with apple cider, soy, and garlic   Pan roasted baby red potatoes with rosemary Haricots verts with sliced almonds Ciabatti rolls Miniature pastries and coffee or tea  

$40 for RHS members; $45 for non-members
