Local Author Donates Books to Support New Choices Career Development Program at Delaware County Community College - Program assists single parents, displaced homemakers and individuals in transition achieve economic security and self-sufficiency
Author and life coach Sherry Shoemaker has donated 50 copies of her inspirational book Courage to Climb, 12 Women Surmount the Impossible, to New Choices Career Development Program at Delaware County Community College to help the organization raise money to further its mission.
A free service of Delaware County Community College, New Choices strives to empower individuals in transition so they can participate fully in planning and achieving their career, educational and personal goals by improving self-esteem and building self-confidence.
Shoemaker chose to participate in the New Choices fundraising efforts because she is dedicated to helping others achieve success and satisfaction in their lives. Says Shoemaker, “Life throws us a lot of curve balls and how people respond to them often determines their sense of satisfaction in life.” In Courage to Climb, Shoemaker takes readers on a cathartic journey through the lives of 12 extraordinary Bucks County and Montgomery County women who faced seemingly insurmountable challenges and turned them into successes.

About New Choices Career Development Program
New Choices Career Development Program is a free service of Delaware County Community College designed to help single parents, displaced homemakers and individuals in transition achieve economic security and self-sufficiency.
The goal of the program is to empower individuals in transition so they can participate fully in planning and achieving their career, educational and personal goals by improving self-esteem and building self-confidence. Classes in computer basics supplement the program.
Services include vocational assessment; career counseling; résumé preparation and interview techniques; skills identification; career planning; job readiness instruction; job search skills; exploration of education and training resources; and job placement assistance.
The program’s staff members engage employers from large corporations, small businesses and local non-profit organizations to participate in classroom presentations, conduct mock interviews with students, share information about particular industries, provide networking opportunities and offer information about job openings. Many program graduates find jobs with employers who participate in the program.
New Choices Career Development Program classes are offered three times per year – in January, March and October – on the Marple Campus. Qualified individuals may receive transportation or child care assistance if funding is available.
