Magic, Movies, Music and an Irish Celebration

Check out our picks to do this weekend in the Marple Newtown Patch area.

It’s Thursday, so it’s time to think about the weekend plans, and it’s sure to be a busy one, with the forecast looking pretty decent. There’s comedy and magic, movies and music, and Irish eyes will surely be smiling at Delaware County’s annual St. Patrick’s parade. Oh, and don’t forget to spring forward, turning your clocks ahead one hour Saturday night.

1.Comedy and Magic

Where/When: , Sat., March 12, from 11 a.m. to noon

Why Go: Ed Schmidt takes to the stage for a morning of amazing magic and side-splitting laughter. The show is for all ages.

2. Movie Night

Where/When: Regal Edgmont Square 10; (check Web site for titles and times)

Why Go: Disney’s new release of Mars Needs Moms, a sci-fi action animation movie. Carmen 3-D is also out this weekend. Also out in the theatre, The Adjustment Bureau, King’s Speech and Black Swan.

Pricing: Adults, $11; Children, $8 (add a few dollars for the 3-D movies, and save a few bucks if you go before 3 p.m.)

 3. Music and Mocha

When/Where: ; Fri., March 11, and Sat., March 12, at 8 p.m.

Why Go: Relax with your friends or a date, sip quality coffee, and enjoy live tunes. Friday night will have a triple feature with Andrea Carlson, Heather Maloney and Andra Taylor performing. Saturday night, John Flynn will take to the mic with Nancy Micciulla.

Pricing: Fri., $8 advance and $10 at the door; Sat., $15 advance and $18 at the door

4. 33rd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Where/When: Springfield Township; Sat., March 12, at noon

Why Go: Delaware County celebrates Irish heritage at the St. Patrick’s Parade. Enjoy high school marching bands, string bands, a pipe and drum group, Veteran’s organization, Irish step dance groups, fire companies, community groups, and more. The parade will start at West Springfield Road and Britton Road, and end at Saxer Avenue and Powell Road.

5. 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll

Where/When: Downtown Media; Sat., March 12, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Why Go: Grab a bite to eat at one of Media’s many restaurants, while enjoying the art, live music and evening shopping along State Street. Check out M.A.C.’s Web site for a map and full rundown of events. It’s the fifth anniversary of  M.A.C. coordinating the 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll. The main event is the children’s music concert with Allison DeSalvo’s “World of Song.” A Fair Trade scavenger hunt kicks off, Drew Draws at , and Seven Stone Café will feature Mama Owl Photography.
