Marine Corps League Installs 2017 Officers and Presents Major Awards

The Gen. Smedley D. Butler Detachment installed its newly elected officers and presented the Marine of the Year and Commandant's awards

As required in its by-laws, at the first meeting of 2017 which was held on January 3rd, the Gen. Smedley D. Butler Detachment's officers for this year were administered their oath of office. Administering the oath was PA Department District 1 Vice Commandant Dan Murray, pictured above. The officers pictured taking the oath from PA Vice Commandant Murray are left to right Judge Advocate Earle Drake (partially), Commandant Dominic D'Alessandro, Sr., Director Jim Flynn, Director Bill Kinney, Jr. Vice Commandant Jack McLeod, and Sr. Vice Commandant Dominick Mattioni. Not in the picture are Adjutant Jack Kelly, Pay Master Bob Spano, Chaplain Chris Bush, and Director Paul Donohue who also took the oath.

In addition, the Detachment's major awards were presented. Named as Marine of the Year for 2016 is George Boyajian who is pictured above with Commandant D'Alessandro. George is a veteran of the 1945 World War II Battle of Okinawa. George is an original member of the Detachment and is very active in its programs most especially our Help Us Help Others fund raising. Also pictured is Director Flynn as he received the Commandant's Award from Commandant D'Alessandro. In addition to being a newly elected Director, Jim is Chairman of the Adopt-a-Highway Committee which polices Bishop Hollow Road four times annually, and is active in the Help Us Help Others program.

The Detachment welcomes our 2017 officers and congratulates George Boyajian and Jim Flynn on their recognition with our two major awards.
