Marine Corps League Makes Americanism Presentation at St. Norbert's School
The Gen. Smedley D. Butler Detachment's Americanism Team Continues to Educate Students on the History of the Flag of the United States
Yesterday, October 30, the Americanism Team of Newtown Square’s Gen. Smedley D. Butler Detachment of the Marine Corps League, gave a Flag History program for the 4th grade students at St. Norbert’s School in Paoli. The Team presented to twenty eight students and three staff members attending the program. The students were exceptionally bright and asked pertinent questions of the Marines. The two photos depict Mrs. Dianne Brown, 4th grade teacher, dressed as a Minion for Halloween and a group photo with, left to right, Marines Earle Drake, Dan Fitzpatrick who is a ceremonial bugler, and Jim Mulhern. Marine Mulhern told the students about the War of 1812, Ft. McHenry, and how Francis Scott Key was able to secure Doctor Beane’s release from captivity. Marine Drake gave a short presentation about the evolution of the flag. Marine Fitzpatrick played bugle calls and, as always, was the hit of the program.
The Americanism Team frequently is asked to give presentations to local school children as well as to civic and fraternal organizations.
