Marple Crime Blotter: Theft, DUI, Vehicle Break-In

Police said a vehicle was broken into and had wires beneath the steering column cut, possibly in an attempt to steal it.

MARPLE TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in Marple Township released their most recent crime blotter last week, as the details are below.


On Saturday, May 9 at 6:47 p.m., Officers Connon and Lazzari responded to a theft of (2) televisions from the Walmart Store at 400 S. State Road. Loss Prevention associates reported that a black male pushed a shopping cart with 2 televisions out of the store without paying for them and was last seen pushing the items in a cart across the parking lot. The actor, Antoine Blackwell, a 29-year-old from Philadelphia, was located pushing the items in a shopping cart while running on South State Road toward Interstate 476. Blackwell was taken into custody and charged with the $528.92 retail theft.

On Saturday, May 9 at 11:44 a.m., a resident of the Governor Sproul Apartments reported that their vehicle was entered and the vehicle was subsequently damaged. The car was rummaged through and wires beneath the steering column were cut, possibly in an attempt to steal the car. No other vehicles in the area were entered or stolen.

On Monday, May 11 at 5:03 p.m., Marple Police responded to the area of South Parkway Boulevard and Reed Road for a one-vehicle accident with no injuries involving one vehicle that collided with a guard rail. Officer Gallagher spoke to the driver and, after completing roadside field sobriety tests, Officer Gallagher opined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident. The driver, 43 years old from Springfield, was subsequently charged with driving under the Influence.
