Marple Crime Blotter: Vandalism, Underage Drinking, Assault, More

Police said a man was charged with assault in connection with a road rage incident during which a father and son were punched.

MARPLE TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in Marple Township issued their weekly crime blotter Friday.

Incidents in the blotter occurred between March 7 and March 12.

March 7

At 8:51 p.m., Officer Austin Gallagher initiated a vehicle stop after observing underage males exiting the Zen Beer and Soda Store on West Sproul Road with cases of beer and Twisted Tea. The purchaser and other occupants of the vehicle were all males from Havertown that were under 21 years of age.

At 9:19 p.m., Officer Gallagher observed a different group of people, appearing to be under 21 years of age and wearing high school clothing entering the same beer distributor and leaving with alcohol. Officer Gallagher and Officer Matt Smith stopped two cars leaving the parking lot. Between the two vehicles, six more persons under 21 years of age from Havertown, Drexel Hill and Springfield were stopped and identified. Additional cases of beer and White Claw were confiscated. All offenders were released to parents, and charges are pending.

March 8

Officer Brian Niedelman responded to the rear of Loomis Elementary School for a report of dirt bikes and four-wheelers "turfing" the field. Officer Niedelman located the 12 year old and his 4-wheeler at his nearby residence and warned him and his father.

March 9

At 3:10 p.m., Officer Stephen Benecke stopped a vehicle on Parkview Drive for a stop sign violation. Officer Benecke detected an odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle and a quantity of marijuana was subsequently recovered from inside of the car. Charges are pending against the driver, a 20-year-old female from Broomall.

At 10:40 p.m., Officer Dave Lerro responded to Davis Ave for an assault. Officer Lerro determined that the assault was the result of an accident/road rage incident that occurred just before the attack. The victim reported that the driver of the striking vehicle grabbed him, put him in a headlock and punched him several times in the face. The victim's 14-year-old son tried to intervene on behalf of his father and was also punched in the face by the offender. The offender left the area in his vehicle. Officer Dan Lazzari recognized the description of the vehicle because he stopped the vehicle just prior to the assault after he observed the offender driving recklessly after being dissatisfied with his service at Wendy's. The offender was quickly identified as a 50-year-old male from Broomall. Charges were filed against the offender.

March 10

At 9:36 p.m., Officers Gallagher and Smith were dispatched multiple times to the Lawrence Park Shopping Center for a naked male walking through the shopping center. The Officers' investigation led them to the apartment of a 70-year-old male from Broomall. The man was intoxicated and was charged for the offense.

March 12

Officers responded several times to the Acme for a disorderly group of approximately 10 juvenile males running in the store, yelling at customers and throwing merchandise onto the floor. Several juveniles were seen running from Police through the breezeway near Five Guys toward Governor Sproul Apartments. Sergeant Chris Chermak received information on who some of the juveniles were and Detectives are following up to review video camera footage from ACME.
