Marple Man Hallucinated Man With Gun: Police

An 18-year-old feared for his life as he hallucinated a man pointing a gun at him Wednesday morning, prompting a police response.

MARPLE, PA – A man reporting someone was pointing a gun at him outside a Marple Township home was found to be hallucinating, according to township police.

Marple Township Police responded to the 100 block of Malin Road at about 12:46 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, police said.

Officers were alerted to the situation by the 911 center, which reported they were told about the situation by a friend of an 18-year-old man claiming to see someone pointing a gun at him, police said.

The 18 year old was fearing for his life and was hearing voices while hallucinating, police said.

An officer in the area responded quickly, so quickly in fact that as he approached the house the 911 center got another report of a man outside the same house with a gun, police said.

The officer checked around the house and found nothing, police said.

Other departments dispatched officers to the area and police learned the 18 year old was hiding under a bed in the home and eventually came out to police, police said.

Police detected a strong odor of marijuana when the person came out, police said.

The 18-year-old was visibly under the influence and was irrational and unable to answer simple questions, police said.

He was later taken to Bryn Mawr hospital for evaluation, police said.

His father, the home owner, gave police permission to enter his bedroom and police did not find any drugs or paraphernalia, police said.

Police said no one was injured in the incident and there are no charges pending.
