MARPLE TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in Marple Township made the unfortunate decision to cancel this year's National Night Out event.

Marple Township Police Department’s 2020 National Night Out was originally planned for Aug. 4 but was pushed back to Oct. 6 due to the coronavirus.

Police had hoped the virus would have subsided enough to host the event, but that is not the case.

"However, after much consideration, we feel that the event cannot be held at this present time while adhering to statewide restrictions and guaranteeing the Marple Township community's health and safety," police said. "We genuinely appreciate your continued support and look forward to the return of National Night Out in 2021."

Nearby in Lower Merion Township, the National Night Out event was canceled, but officials are hosting a hot dog giveaway for those who donate to local food pantries in lieu of the National Night Out event.
