Power Back For Most In Marple, Newtown

Strong winds overnight has knocked out power to more than 6,500 residents in Delaware County, PECO reports.

Strong winds overnight has knocked out power to more than 6,500 residents in Delaware County, PECO reports. More than 2,200 people in Marple and Newtown lost power. By Sunday night, it was back on for all but about 100 local residents.

As of 9:25 a.m. Sunday, the following outages have been reported by municipality:

  • 1,342 Marple
  • 871- Newtown
  • 759 - Radnor
  • 672 - Haverford
  • 334 - Upper Darby
  • 317- Ridley
  • 255- Springfield
  • 153- Upper Providence

A storm system passed through the region overnight, bringing gusts of up to 60 mph, the National Weather Service said. A severe thunderstorm warning was in place around midnight, as heavy thunder and lightning, strong winds and rain passed across the region.
