Murder, Beheading Lands Delco Man Prison Time

CLIFTON HEIGHTS, PA — A Delaware County man will spend up to 70 years in prison after authorities said he killed then tried to behead his girlfriend.

Nicholas Peter Scurria, 33, of Clifton Heights, was sentenced to 35 to 70 years in prison last week.

Scurria pleaded guilty to charges of third degree murder, possession of an instrument of crime, abuse of a corpse, and aggravated assault on May 19.

Authorities charged Scurria in February 2022 after investigating an early morning domestic disturbance in an apartment on the 400 block of South Springfield Road in Clifton Heights.

He was found in the apartment with a dead woman, later identified as his girlfriend Deborah Sager, 58.

Authorities said he was using a machete to cut the woman's head off.

Scurria and his girlfriend were fighting when the altercation turned deadly, authorities said.
