New COVID Cases Up More Than 50 Percent In Delco, Data Shows

Five of the six key coronavirus metrics measures by the state have increased in Delaware County, some by more than 50 percent.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — New coronavirus cases and the incidence rate per 100,000 people have increased by more than 50 percent over the past week in Delaware County, according to the latest data from the state.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports five of the six key coronavirus metrics have increased in Delaware County from Dec. 17 to Dec. 24.

New confirmed cases increased by 53 percent, going up from 1,457 to 2,232.

The incidence rate per 100,000 people also increased by 53 percent; that figure went up to 393.8 from 257.1.

Delaware County's positive testing rate increased from 11.2 percent to 14.8 percent.

The average number of coronavirus-specific hospitalizations went up from 64.3 to 79.1

The percent of people showing up to emergency rooms with coronavirus-like illnesses increased from 2.1 percent to 2.7 percent.

Lastly, the average number of hospitalized patients on ventilators decreased from 5.7 to 5.3.

Delaware County has seen 64,191 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 1,563 coronavirus-related deaths to date.

According to the state, 333,220 people in the county have been fully vaccinated, 69,753 people have been partially vaccinated, and 100,302 people have received a third dose since Aug. 13.
