Newtown, Marple Get Grant Funding For Open Space, Trail Projects
One municipality got $37,800 to prepare a greenways and open space plan while the other got $35,000 for a study to develop a trail system.

Gov. Tom Wolf's office recently announced $72,800 in total has been awarded to Newtown and Marple townships for an open space project and a study for the development of a trail system, respectively.
According to Wolf's office, Newtown Township was awarded $37,800 in grant funding to prepare a comprehensive greenways and open space plan.
Additionally, Marple Township was awarded $35,000 to prepare a study on a potential trail system development, Wolf's office said.

In total, $44 million has been invested in 266 projects across the state. Those projects all create new recreational opportunities, conserve natural resources, and help revitalize local communities, Wolf's office said.
"Communities go from good to great when they provide residents and visitors with parks and trails, access to waterways, and opportunities for healthy outdoor activity," Wolf said in a statement announcing the grants. "This $44 million in grants will support communities throughout Pennsylvania working to protect and improve natural amenities for our citizens."

The grants are administered by Pennsylvania Department of Conservation of Natural Resources through the Community Conservation Partnerships Program. Additional investments include: 49 trail projects; protecting nearly 8,000 acres of open space; nine projects for planting riparian buffers along streams; 14 projects for rivers conservation; and over 100 projects to develop or rehabilitate recreation, park and conservation areas and facilities.
