Newtown Square Fire Company Battles Christmas SEPTA Station Fire
Crews from area fire companies leaped into action Christmas Day when the fire broke out, damaging part of the station.

Crews from the Newtown Square Fire Company leaped into action on Christmas Day to help quell a blaze at the Devon SEPTA Train Station.
Crews from the Newtown Square, Radnor, Berwyn, and Paoli fire companies were called to the station at about 12:32 p.m. Monday, Dec. 25 for a building fire, according to the Berwyn Fire Company.
The overhanging roof of the westbound platform had smoke coming from it when crews arrived and part of the roof fell off, blocking the train tracks, the fire company said.

The fire company said all westbound trains were halted until the scene was clear. SEPTA officials said the service experienced minimal interruptions due to trains operating on a holiday schedule.
Firefighters had the fire under control quickly, by about 12:51 p.m., according to the fire company.

The Chester County Fire Marshals Office and the SEPTA Fire Marshal declared the fire accidental, the fire company said.
SEPTA officials said the total damage to the station is still unknown, but train service is operating as regularly scheduled.
Easttown Township Police also responded to the scene.
