Newtown Square resident Bernie Prazenica elected board chair of Police Athletic League of Philadelphia

Newtown Square resident Bernie Prazenica has been elected board chair of the Police Athletic League (PAL) of Philadelphia (www.phillypal.org).

Prazenica, president and general manager of WPVI-TV/6ABC, has been a PAL board member since 2008, and served as the organization’s treasurer 2013-2016. He serves on PAL’s Public Relations Committee as well as the group’s various Award Dinner committees.

Through the Police Athletic League, Philadelphia police officers, supported by civilians and volunteers, offer sports, educational and cultural programs to more than 18,000 at-risk youth in 17 centers in some of the city’s highest-crime and lowest-income neighborhoods.

In addition to PAL, Prazenica serves on many boards, including the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau executive committee, Philly Ad Club executive committee, Temple University School of Media and Communication Board of Visitors, The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Corporate Council and Philadelphia Zoo Chairman’s Council.

A 1979 cum laude graduate of Temple University with a B.A. in Communications, Radio-TV-Film, he is a member of Temple’s School of Media and Communications’ “Gallery of Success” and is a past recipient of the “Lew Klein Alumni in the Media” award. Prazenica was recognized in 2014 by Philadelphia Magazine as one of the City’s “75 Most Influential People.”

Prazenica and his wife, Patty, reside in Newtown Square. They have two children, Caitlin and Michael.
