Newtown Township Awarded Two Grants

For Revitalization of Greer Park

Newtown Township, Delaware County is pleased to announce that it has received two grants for the renovation and development of Greer Park. The first grant, a Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) grant in the amount of $277,500, was secured with the support of Rep. Chris Quinn (R-168th). The grant covers:

  • Restoration of 700 feet of Foxes Run
  • Creation of wetlands
  • Construction of a fishing pier, bridge, pavilion and walkway, including Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access
  • Installation of stormwater management measures and riparian forest buffer
  • Landscaping, signage and other improvements

“The revitalization of Greer Park will be enjoyed by residents for years to come,” said Rep. Chris Quinn (R-168th). “I’m grateful DCNR recognized the value of this project to our community and to the Commonwealth, and I was pleased to support Newtown’s grant application.”

The second grant is from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) in the amount of $200,000. The Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program (GTR) application for Newtown Township’s Greer Park Restoration Project was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) on November 19, 2021. DCED grants provide funds to municipalities, business and other entities for theplanning, acquisition, development, rehabilitation and repair of greenways, recreational trails, open space, parks and beautification projects.

“Greer Park offers residents a wonderful place to enjoy the outdoors, exercise, and even picnic,” saidStephen Nease, Township Manager. “These grants will not only help us to both preserve our green space but also improve the amenities of Greer Park so that it can become a great place for the community to gather.”
