'No Break-Ins, Protest March:' Marple Police Squash Online Rumors
Police in Marple are joining other police departments in squashing unfounded social media rumors of crime amid regional protests and unrest.
MARPLE TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in Marple Township said various rumors circulations social media are unfounded and clarifying details with the community.
On Thursday, police said social media rumors claimed homes on Candlewood Road were burglarized Wednesday night.
No homes were broken into on Candlewood Road, police said.

In fact, police said there were no incidents at all on Candlewood Road, save for downed trees and wires.
Police also said a protest march is not planned in the township.

"There is a planned static demonstration, not a march, tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the McDonald's parking lot," police said Thursday. "We have been in contact with the organizer who has been nothing short of helpful and informative."
At the demonstration, officers will be make sure participants are safe and secure, as well as passersby, residents, businesses, and commuters.
"We have every reason to believe this will be everything the organizer has promised - a peaceful, responsible, and organized exercise of the First Amendment," police said.
Police encouraged residents minimize social media intake in general but more so now, as numerous instances of false information on protests, riots, and more make rounds on social media in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
"Your eyes, neck, and emotional well-being will love you for it," police said.
