Overall Crime Up In 2022 From 2021: Marple Police

Marple Township Police issued their annual report for 2022 recently, and statistics show crime was up from 2021. See by how much here.

MARPLE TOWNSHIP, PA — The 2022 annual report from Marple Township Police shows overall crime was up from 2021.

In 2022, police handled 14,310 calls.

That's up just 1 percent from 2021, which had 14,125 calls.

Of the 14,130 calls, 530 were identified as crimes by the Federal Uniform Crime Reporting Program.

The program breaks crime into two parts.

Part 1 crimes are generally more violent and include murder, nonnegligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.

Part 2 crimes include sexual weapons violations, drug offenses, fraud, and more.

Last year, Marple saw 289 Part 1 crimes and 241 Part 2 crimes.

Of those 530 crimes, 324 were cleared, resulting in 355 arrests, which is a clearance rate of 61.1 percent, police said.

According to authorities, the national average for clearances of violent crime is usually below 50 percent.

Theft made up the bulk of crimes dealt with in 2022, with police reporting 262 thefts last year.

That figure represents 49.2 percent of all crime in 2022.

Fraud has the second-largest share of all crime in the township last year. Police report 67 instances of fraud in 2022.

Juvenile crime incidents nearly doubled in 2022 from 2021.

Police statistic show 2022 had 42 juvenile crime incidents while 2021 had 24.
