Overall Crime Dropped In Marple Township Last Year, Police Data Shows

MARPLE TOWNSHIP, PA — Overall crime dropped in Marple Township from 2024 to 2025, according to data in the Marple Township Police Department's annual report.

Authorities released the report Tuesday.

While total crime decreased, the number of calls increased. 2025 saw 16,449 service calls, while 2024 had 15,605 and 2023 had 15,157.

Police in 2025 had 22 incidents involving 25 individuals that required the use of force to "control a situation for the safety of the public, the individual, or the officers themselves." That figure is down from the 28 incidents in 2024.

Two of the 22 incidents involved a taser, 10 required the officer to draw, but not fire, their duty firearm, and the rest were limited to officers physically restraining or controlling an individual with their hands.

The gender and ethnic breakdown of those individuals who compelled officers to use force is as follows:

Marple Township is 81.2 percent “White Alone," 12.2 percent “Asian Alone,” 3.8 percent “Hispanic or Latino," 2.7 percent “Two or More Races," and 1.7 percent “Black Alone." The population is 50.4 percent female and 49.6 percent male.

"The disparity in the arrest rate compared to our township demographic is a direct result of our crime patterns and where those who commit them call home," police said.

Of the 247 arrestees, the residency of the offenders was as follows:

  • 34 percent - Philadelphia
  • 26 percent - Delaware County (not Broomall/Marple residents)
  • 23 percent - Outside Delaware County and from other states
  • 15 percent - Broomall/Marple Township

Polic handled 42 juvenile offenses in 2025 in which an actor was identified and charged criminally or referred to the Youth Aid Panel. That was an increase of three from 39 in 2024.

Fifteen of those were forwarded to the Juvenile Court System, up from the 11 in 2024. These offenses included receiving stolen property, theft, and assault.

Twenty-five were referred to the Youth Aid Panel, up from 24 in 2024, and two were issued non-traffic citations in 2025, down from 10 in 2024.
