Owners of Casey's in Newtown Square Reinvents Casual Dining in Springfield
Changes to decor and menu give The Porch in Springfield new appeal for younger patrons.
SPRINGFIELD–The exterior of The Lamb Tavern in Springfield, with its nearly 300 years of history, might seem stuffy and intimidating to some. That's an image that proprietors Peter Crisanti and Steve Graham, popularly known in town as the owners of in Newtown Square, are looking to change.
"We want to get the word out that The Porch is great for more than just special occasions," said Crisanti. "It's an affordable, everyday place to grab a bite."
Newly contemporized, The Porch Restaurant, opened in March 2011 looking to set itself apart from image of fine dining and banquets. Improvements are still being made, such as the gorgeous picture windows that open up the indoor bar to the outside deck during nice weather.

Contemporary American Cuisine
Executive chef and general manager, John Whalin, is responsible for creating new menu options and putting a new twist on traditional favorites. Whalin, who graduated from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, was inspired by the current trend toward lighter fare and tapas when creating the menu.

"We wanted to reinvent our image to be more approachable to a younger clientele," said Whalin. "The Porch is a great place to hang out after work or before a movie. You get a lot of bang for your buck here."
Bang For Your Buck
Crisanti wants to get the word out about The Porch's happy hour Monday through Friday 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Happy hour drink specials start at $2 and food specials at $5.
The lunch menu, starting at $4.99, offers a variety of choices from soup and sandwiches to salads and flat breads. The portions aren't skimpy either. Classic dinner entrees start at $17.99.
"Incredible" Outdoor Dining
"Few places in Delaware County offer incredible outdoor dining like this," said Crisanti.
The outdoor patio, with its comfortable seating, fountain, and gazebo, offers a casual, friendly ambiance that is hard to match. Carefully secluded behind greenery and a fence, it truly is an oasis for those who love al fresco dining. The deck ajoins the bar area.
Area Connections
Artwork in the bar area of The Porch seeks to captures the feel of Delaware County. In addition to Casey's Seafood Grille and Pub, Graham and Crisanti also own in Berwyn and Ludwig's Oyster House in Glenmore.
