PennDOT Replacing Springton Reservoir Bridge In Marple

Work on replacing the bridge that carries Route 252/Palmer's Mill Road over the Springton Reservoir in Marple is set to begin Jan. 28.

MARPLE TOWNSHIP, PA — Construction is set to begin Monday, Jan. 28, on a project to replace the bridge that carries Route 252/Palmer’s Mill Road over the Springton Reservoir in Marple and Upper Providence townships, PennDOT said.

The bridge replacement project will address existing deficiencies of the Route 252/Palmer’s Mill Road bridge and increase the span length to accommodate Aqua PA's future enlargement of the Springton Reservoir.

Construction will begin on Monday, Jan. 28 with the installation of advanced warning signs and tree clearing operations.

Motorists can expect periodic weekday lane restrictions with flagging on Route 252/Palmer’s Mill Road between Lakeview Drive and Newtown Street Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. These construction activities will be in place through the summer.

The project includes building a temporary bridge that will be used to carry northbound Route 252/Palmer’s Mill Road traffic over Springton Reservoir to keep one travel lane in each direction open through the project limits.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur.
