Public Input Sought For Newtown Township Police Accreditation
Newtown Township Police will be undergoing an accreditation process in January and the public can weigh in on the proceedings.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA – The Newtown Township Police Department will be undergoing an accreditation assessment in January and the public is invited to weigh in on the process.
A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), will examine all aspects of the Newtown Township Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services on Jan. 7 , Chief of Police Christopher Lunn announced today.
As part of the assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session at 7 p.m. on Jan. 8 in the Newtown Township Public Meeting Room.

Verification by the team that the Newtown Township Police Department meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of public safety excellence, he said.
Those who cannot speak at the public session but would like to provide comments to the assessment team, can do so by calling (610) 420-1625 on Jan. 8, between of 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Telephone comments, as well as appearances at the public information session, are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards.
A copy of the standards is available at the township reception area.
Those looking to provide written comments about the Newtown Township Police Department’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation can write to Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Inc., 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia, 22030-2215.
Accreditation lasts for four years. During those years, the department must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited, police said.
