Spring Fling, Spring Flowers and Spring Theatre This Weekend
Check out these things to do for the first weekend in March in the Marple Newtown Patch area.

It’s Thursday, so it’s time to think about the weekend plans. March has arrived, and spring is just weeks away. Bloom into the season by visiting the world’s largest indoor flower show, play some games at a Spring Fling and support high school drama students. There’s plenty going on, so let Marple Newtown Patch offer these five ideas for you.
1. Drama & Burgers

Why Go: Grab a burger and fries for dinner while supporting the talented students from the drama department. Part of the proceeds raised that day will be donated to the department, which they will use toward their spring musical, “The Pajama Game.” Go out and meet the cast.

2. Loomis Elementary Spring Fling Fun Fair
Where/When: Loomis Elementary School; Sat. from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Why Go: The community is invited to participate in a day filled with games, raffles, prizes, great food, a photo booth, face painting and more.

3. Media Film Festival
Where/When: ; Thurs., March 3 through Sat., March 5 at 7 p.m. Special Late Night Horror Fest screening on Friday at 10:30 p.m.
Why Go: The 4th annual event, organized by Media Arts Council, will feature independent regional, national and international films. Works include Narrative, Documentary, Animation and Experimental. After Saturday’s screenings, there will be an awards ceremony, followed by an after party at . There will be two workshops on Saturday. One focuses on animation, the other on new digital cinema tools.

4. Philadelphia International Flower Show
Where/When: Pennsylvania Convention Center; Sun., March 6 to Sunday, March 13; check Web site for times
Why Go: The Flower Show will transport visitors to the City of Light, the capital of art, fashion, food and love. “Springtime in Paris” will greet guests with a scene along the Seine River, blooming with flowering trees, lilacs, roses and lavender. Featured displays will highlight many themes, including Paris’ Victorian glamour, romance, and the courtyards and cafes from a Parisian paradise. There will also be free presentations all week, and dozens of displays that explore the newest gardening trends. A marketplace offers memorabilia for sale, and also gardening products. Visitors will enjoy free wine tastings as well.

5. Segal Puppet Theatre
Where/When:; Sat. from 1 to 2 p.m.
Why Go: The little ones will love this 40-minute interactive puppet show of friendship and love. Mark Segal began the Puppet Theatre in 1977, and has since served a million happy customers. In 1986, he developed Tooth Buddy Tales, which is a dental education and awareness program for local children.
