Taxes Going Down In Marple Newtown School District 2017-2018 Budget

Your tax bill will go down, albeit slightly, next year as the district adopted its 2017-2018 budget.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA – Taxes will go down in for residents living in the Marple Newtown School District thanks for the district's newly adopted 2017-2018 budget. The $81.25 million budget will give residents a very slight break on taxes.

The old millage rate was 18.07 and the new budget knocks that figure down to 18.06, according to budget documents. While it's nothing major, it's still a decrease in taxes regardless.

A home valued at $300,000 in the district will see a tax bill of $5,418, down just a few dollars from the 2016-2017 tax bill which would have been $5,421 for a home assessed at the same value.

School Board President Kathy Chandless said the slight drop in the millage rate comes from the board’s decision to refinance outstanding debt and the increased revenue from development, according to the Delaware County Daily Times.
