As a pilot project, the Shade Tree Commission of Newtown Township recommended ordering 10 trees to be planted on individually owned properties within the Township. The trees, ordered through Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) Tree Tenders, are bare root trees and cost $55.00 each. They come with stakes and ties. For a property owner to qualify to purchase a tree at that price the property owner must be willing to plant the tree within 10 feet of the roadway edge or curb line. A trained Tree Tender must be present when these trees are planted. With the Township, there are several Tree Tenders willing to help.
