Volunteers Sought For Newtown Historic Commission

Commission members will discourage demolition of historic structures, identifying historic structures, and encourage preservation.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Newtown Township’s Historic Commission is in need of volunteers to join its ranks.

The township's Board of Supervisors needs interested and qualified residents to apply for the positions.

The commission will help the township protect its historical resources.

The Newtown Township Historic Commission will consist of seven people who are residents of Newtown Township tasked with performing the following duties:

  • Identifying historic properties and structures in Newtown Township;
  • encouraging historic preservation by educating residents about historic structures and buildings in the township; assisting owners of historic structures with nomination to the National Registry of Historic Places; and making ownership of an historic structure affordable;
  • discouraging demolition of historic structures, or if demolition cannot be avoided, preserving as much documentation and resources pertaining to the structure, as possible.
