Our Town Member asks Newtown Township Supervisors to Reject CR Zoning.

The following thoughts were submitted by Richard House. He is one of the many Newtown Square Residents opposed to the Commercial Residential Zoning Amendment that would create more Commercial space in Newtown Square.

The last thing Newtown Township needs is more commercial zoning.

Look at both sides of Clyde Lane; look at the row of stores along West Chester Pike between Rt. 252 and Clyde Lane; look at the shell of the old Post Office on Rt. 252; think about the woods and wetlands that used to lie along Rt. 3 between Mostardi’s and the newly constructed memorial; Remember how beautiful the Du Pont property was before it was bulldozed for hundreds more houses; look at the condition of the main shopping center.

And the traffic … you can already sit in an afternoon traffic jam on Rt. 252 all the way from Lancaster Pike to West Chester Pike.

Just look at the empty storefronts at every turn. There is no evidence of planning, no attempt to preserve open space even for current residents, let alone for future generations. All you see is suburban sprawl, commercial decay, and unplanned development.

As township commissioners, you have a responsibility to act as stewards, as caretakers. Please reject this and all future requests to develop what little space remains in the township. And please share with residents your plans to address the concerns expressed by dozens of residents in this petition.

Sincerely,
Richard House
