2 RTM Teachers Finalists for PA Teacher of the Year

Two of finest were named as finalists for Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year. 

Only 12 teachers across the state are finalists.

Nancy Gheysens, a RTII teacher at , and DeAnn Scherer, a math teacher at , were named finalists for Pennsylvania’s 2013 Teacher of the Year.

Rose Tree Media and Northern Lebanon are the only districts with more than one teacher listed as a finalist.

"On behalf of Governor Tom Corbett and the Department of Education, I congratulate all of the outstanding educators who have been chosen as finalists for Pennsylvania’s 2013 Teacher of the Year,” Secretary of Education Ron Tomalis said in a press release. “These individuals represent the best-of-the-best Pennsylvania’s public education system has to offer.”

The finalists were nominated by students, parents, colleagues and members of the community who wished to recognize their achievements in the classroom and community, according to Pennsylvania Department of Education.

The winner will be announced later this year. The state’s Teacher of the Year, will be Pennsylvania’s nominee for National Teacher of the Year.

The the top 12 teachers nominated by their districts are:

• Ryan Devlin-Brockway Area School District
• Nancy Gheysens- Rose Tree Media School District
• Paula Giran- Norwin School District
• Michael Miller- Wyomissing Area School District
• Janet Miltenberger- Southern Lehigh School District
• James Prince- North Allegheny School District
• DeAnn Scherer- Rose Tree Media School District
• Janette Showalter- Northern Lebanon School District
• Jacquelyn Wagner- Penns Valley Area School District
• Denise Williams- Northern Lebanon School District
