NETHER PROVIDENCE, PA — Three people were arrested Tuesday after authorities say they preyed on a Delaware County resident in a "significant" scam.

The incident, reported Monday afternoon, targeted an elderly resident from the 200 block of West Rose Valley Road in Nether Providence, police said.

Nether Providence Police didn't specify the nature of the scam, citing the active investigation. It's also unclear whether the victim lost any money or assets.

The FBI and Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division are assisting local police.

"The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was contacted by an unknown individual as part of a deception-based financial scam," said Nether Providence Police Chief David M. Splain. "The victim was later directed to make financial transactions involving valuable assets."

One person was arrested around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at the victim's home, where authorities were working on an investigative lead, Splain said.

Investigators learned that two other suspects may have been in the area. One was arrested on the 200 block of South Providence Road. The other was apprehended on the 300 block of Rosewood Lane after an "extensive search," Splain said.

Police did not share the suspects' identities or charges on Tuesday.

"Residents are reminded to be cautious of unsolicited telephone calls, computer pop-up messages, or other communications from individuals claiming to represent financial institutions, technology companies, government agencies, or other organizations," Splain said. "Residents should never provide personal information, banking information, money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, gold, or other valuables to unknown individuals."

Anyone who believes they may have fallen victim can call the Nether Providence Township Police Department at 610-892-2875.
