$36K Stolen From Delco Woman In 'Grandchild Scam:' State Police

A Media woman was scammed out of $36,000 by a person claiming to be her grandson, who told her to mail cash to California.

MEDIA, PA β€” A Delaware County woman sent $36,000 to several addresses in California after someone claiming to be her grandson asked her to send cash.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, an 85-year-old Media woman got a call from someone claiming to be her grandson.

The caller convinced the victim to mail cash to addresses in California.

Police said she sent $36,000 cash in a glass jar wrapped in bubble tape to those addresses.

The victim's daughter told police of the incident on Friday.
