AMLL Wins Hard Fought Battle Forcing Game 2 In District Championship

After a 6 run 6th inning to take the win over NELL, Aston-Middletown sets their sights on Championship Finale.

Their final Little League game ever was on the line Sunday afternoon, but Aston-Middletown was able to keep their cool to defeat Newtown-Edgmont and force a game 2 of the District Championship.

The offensive was once again on a roll Sunday. Brett Bonebrake opened the scoring up with an RBI single in the top of the 2nd. NELL quickly took the lead 3-1 after that.

But it was the late inning rally that fueled the win from AMLL.

In the top of the 5th inning, Sam Benvignati crushed his first of 2 three run home-runs to take the lead 4-3. Nick Chelo also drove in a run with a single to center field.

But in bottom half of the inning, things got a little dicey. Roman Tozzi was brought in relief of Christian Reed, with the bases loaded and only one out. After walking two runs in, he punched two K's to finish off the inning.

But in the top of the 6th inning, AMLL's offensive power came up clutch once again. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Roman Tozzi hit a two-run double into the gap in right field to give AMLL the 7-5 lead. But that all. Sam Benvignati hit another three run shot to give AMLL some insurance. Nikko Partsanakis then went back-to-back with Benvignati by hit a solo home-run down the left field line.

Chelo caught the final pop-up in right field to close the doors by a final of 11-5 and force a Game 2, as this is NELL's first loss of the tournament.

That's an outstanding 56 runs with over 15 home-runs so far during this 5 game tournament.

The AMLL team will now look to win their 3rd straight District Championship and head off to Sections tomorrow evening at Newtown-Edgmont Little League with the first pitch at 6pm.

With a team averaging over 11 runs per-game, and pitching to be in tact, AMLL will fight to stay alive tomorrow night.
