IKEA Opens Its First Delco Store

MEDIA, PA — Four decades after the Swedish furniture giant established its first American store in Philadelphia's suburbs, Delaware County has its first IKEA.

IKEA cut the ribbon Wednesday for its new "Plan and order point" store at The Promenade at Granite Run in Media.

Far smaller than a traditional IKEA location, the Plan and order points allow customers to sit with employees to plan home-furnishing solutions. Staff can arrange for delivery or schedule orders for pickup on a future date.

Media's location also offers pickup for those items.

IKEA's first U.S. store opened in 1985 in Plymouth Meeting, later moving to a larger space in Conshohocken and bringing another full-service store to South Philadelphia.

The international corporation only has about 60 U.S. stores. But in recent years, IKEA has branched into smaller locations such as pop-up show rooms and the Plan and order points.

IKEA Media (1111 W Baltimore Pike, Suite K) is open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
