I-476 Closures Planned In Delco For $63.7M Roadwork Project

The closures will impact drivers over the next two weeks.

Drivers traveling on Interstate 476 in Delaware County should expect overnight lane closures and a weekend exit ramp closure over the next two weeks as a major resurfacing and bridge repair project continues, PennDOT said.

The closures will take place on the I-476 corridor in Marple Township and Nether Providence.

The work is part of a $63.7 million project to resurface, repair and improve nearly 17 miles of I-476 — along with associated ramps and bridges — between Interstate 76 in West Conshohocken and Interstate 95 in Ridley Township.

PennDOT announced the following traffic restrictions:

PennDOT is urging drivers to allow extra travel time when driving through the work zones, warning that backups and delays are expected. All work is weather-dependent.

The broader project includes milling and paving travel lanes and shoulders in both directions, repairs to 49 bridges and structures, improvements to 21 stormwater management basins, sound wall repairs, inlet replacements, and installation of new pavement markings, rumble strips, guiderail, signage, delineators and intelligent transportation system upgrades.

According to PennDOT, the improvements are intended to extend the interstate's lifespan while improving ride quality, safety and roadside infrastructure, including drainage systems.

H&K Group Inc., of Skippack, is the general contractor on the federally funded project.

Drivers can check current traffic conditions and construction updates through the 511PA website, mobile app or by calling 511. PennDOT also posts planned and active construction projects on its District 6 website.
