CHADDS FORD, PA — A gluten-free bakery that started with a family's journey of living with Celiac disease will permanently close later this month.
Aunt Kim's Gluten Free Bakery's last day will be Oct. 17 or while supplies last, the Chadds Ford business announced on social media.
"After many wonderful years, we have made the difficult decision to close our bakery due to ongoing medical reasons that require our time and attention," the announcement says. "We are incredibly grateful for every customer, order, and memory you have shared with us throughout the years."
Owner Kim Tosten's journey started in 2002, when her niece and then several other family members were diagnosed with Celiac disease — an autoimmune disease triggered by gluten.
Tosten's family quickly figured out how to make gluten-free dinners for get-togethers. But desserts were the hardest part, according to the bakery's website.
Shortly after diagnosis, "Aunt Kim" created her own blend of gluten-free flour to make cookies. It was a hit with family and friends, so she decided to open Aunt Kim's and share her gluten-free sweets with the world.
The bakery's menu includes cookies, cupcakes, scones, cupcakes and more. Some of the recipes are available on their website.
Aunt Kim's is located at 100 Ridge Rd., Chadds Ford.
