Gas station sushi doesn't have the best reputation, but it's never been sold at Wawa — until now.
Wawa is testing the Japanese delicacy at a limited number of stores with Sushi Soko — a brand from Hissho Sushi, one of the largest sushi distributors in the United States, a Wawa spokesperson says.
"We are testing 6 cooked sushi roll varieties, made fresh locally and delivered daily to a limited number of stores in Wawa's Express Grab & Go case and the initial response is very favorable with crunchy and spicy rolls being top choices for our customers!" the spokesperson told Patch via email.
Wawa hasn't revealed where it's rolling out this sushi experiment. But it's only natural for the Delaware County-headquartered convenience store chain to test the waters in the local region. The Philadelphia Inquirer has reported sightings at stores in Media, West Chester, Glen Mills and Exton.
