DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Democrats are set to represent Delaware County's entire State Legislature delegation, with Delco's only Republican-led district flipping blue for the first time in half a century.
Delco was long considered a presidential bellwether county, while locally, Republicans controlled county politics for 150 years. But tides have shifted in the past decade, with Democrats winning control of the County Council in 2019 and the party establishing further dominance in the ensuing years.
Democrats entered election night holding 14 of 15 state house seats with Delco constituents. The lone Republican is Rep. Craig Williams (PA-160).
But the 160th district, which straddles southern Delco and Chester County, voted for a Democratic candidate in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the first time since 1976.
Democrat Elizabeth Moro has defeated Williams in the 160th district election, according to the Associated Press. Moro, a small business owner, secured 55 percent of the vote — Williams defeated her by about the same margin in 2024.
Meanwhile, Democrats secured their seats for the rest of Delco's state house delegation, which is 11 House seats and four Senate seats.
In the House, nine of the 10 incumbent Democrats were re-elected. Haverford Board of Commissioners President Judy Trombetta was elected in the 166th district — months after she defeated Rep. Greg Vitali in the Democratic primary.
Two of Delco's Democratic state senators were re-elected Tuesday — Anthony Hardy Williams (8th senate district), who ran unopposed, and Tim Kearney (26th district). Delco's other two State Senate seats, held by Democrats, weren't up for election this year.
All election results are unofficial until certified on a later date.
